It can be tempting to want to build your little prince or princess a castle, but think twice. The main source of heat in a dog house is the dog itself, so it’s best to keep the size no larger than necessary. The basic dog house should be just large enough for the dog to enter and turn fully around to get comfortable, and of course tall enough for comfort as well. A smaller space also helps minimize trapped hot air in the summer time.

We offer small / medium / large / extra large standard sizes, but can also scale any design to match your pet’s personal needs or the available space.

If you’d really like to have something larger, or if you expect extreme temperatures, consider adding active heating and cooling to the design to keep fido as comfortable as possible.

Is your dog a full time outsider who needs shelter from all kinds of weather, or an inside/outside dog who only needs a place to go to cool down on a hot day or escape a quick rainstorm? Is he a Husky who refuses to come in out of a blizzard but melts in even moderate temperatures, or a high-energy Chihuahua who likes nothing better than to run all day in the hot sun, but just doesn’t have the body mass to handle winter chills? Will it be used by just one fur-baby, or do you have a whole pack that will be sharing the space?

Think about how your pet(s) will use the house when looking at design options. There’s no need to overbuild a simple rain/shade shelter, but a 24/7 home for extreme weather might have to have many features to keep fido comfortable and safe.

You put a lot of thought and effort into the style of your home and its furnishings and decor. Why wouldn’t you want the same for your pet? This is in some ways both the easiest and hardest design consideration, because there are almost no limits.

Do you want a classic “Snoopy” style? Something modern and angular? Should it match your house? Built in under a table or other outdoor furniture? Do you want it to be unobtrusive or make a statement?
